#OOTD – Comfort is key!

Picking out an outfit that I manage to wear all day can sometimes be a struggle. As a SAHM I’m always on the move. Between maintaining the household, chasing my son, running errands and going on play dates – I’m always on the go! The key to putting together an outfit that I don’t change out of by nap time is comfort. That goes for everyone, whether you’re at work or keeping track of a toddler you want to be comfortable throughout the day.

To make life easier I try to lay out my outfit the night before. I check the weather forecast first and lay out a few options based on the high’s & low’s.  For instance, last night I laid out my outfit for today’s activities of going to the Animal Park & running errands.  I needed an outfit that would look nice, but still be functional while walking around outside.  I chose pinstriped straight leg pants with two top options, one being a white lace tank and the other a basic navy V-neck tee.

Deciding on which top to wear is based on my choice of accessories. I love to combine plain V-neck tees with statement necklaces. By adding a bold necklace to a basic top it becomes more than “just a t-shirt”. However, since we were going to be outside all morning I chose to wear the lace tank.  I know there’s a blog out there somewhere that advises against mixing fabrics & patterns but I think it adds depth, plus in fashion there are no real “rules”.  I paired my outfit with my favorite two-tone Tory Burch studs.  The pastel pink complements the blue in the pants and the gold coordinates with my sandals.

The vertical stripes in my pants create long lines and add height to my 5″ stature; always a plus!  I chose to cuff the bottom of my pants showing off my gold ankle-wrap sandals.  And there you have it, a comfortable outfit that took little effort and lasted all day!

My glimpse into morning refuge

Mornings like these are rare; I’m usually awaken by the rustling movements or screams of a toddler. However, today I managed wake up first! Although I’d rather stay in bed snuggled under the blankets I made the decision to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

As I sit in my morning room sipping coffee out of my favorite mug while watching the sun come up & the cars rush to work I realized this is my moment. It’s not much but it’s mine. It’s my few minutes of peace & quiet before the madness ensues. This is my sanity. I could get a head start on my morning routine of doing laundry, emptying the dishwasher, dusting the living room and cleaning the wood floors, but why rush the inevitable. Instead, I sit here enjoying my moment listening to my thoughts and planning my day.

This is my new morning routine. I need this brief time to myself to be a better wife, mother and all-around human being. Whether you’re a parent or not, we all need some me time. Our days are full of making decisions, pleasing others, pushing ourselves to work harder, run harder, be better – we all deserve a quiet moment to ourselves.

Working out without a gym

Getting a good workout in with a one year old seemed nearly impossible to me. I tried using the daycare provided by the gym, but my son kept getting sick from all the unwashed, germ-infested toys he was putting in his mouth. So to avoid sleepless nights taking care of a sick child I decided to take advantage of our daily routine instead.

The babe and I love going for walks around the neighborhood; we try to go for a walk at least once a day! To get the most out of our walks I do what I like to call ‘stroller-push outs’ going up each hill, mind you our neighborhood is very hilly. I extend my arms and push the stroller away from myself and then bring it back as if I were doing push-ups on the ground. I do this as many times as I can as I walk up each hill. It may sound silly but by the end of our walk I feel the burn in my legs, butt, arms & shoulders…that’s what I call a good, easy work out!

Including the babe into my workouts is easy & fun.  I  chase him around the house while doing lunges or we do super-baby sit ups together; he thinks he’s flying and I’m working my core!
Staying fit while having fun & spending time with my little man…that’s what life is all about!
