The Witch comes out at Night

What is it about bed time that brings out the monster in my son & the witch in me?  Throughout the day I’m patient, full of energy and ready to play but by the end of the day my patience is run out, my tank is empty & I’m exhausted.  I can’t be the only parent that feels this way…

I wish I could say that my son is a good sleeper, but he’s not and though I’ve become accustom to the sleepless nights it’s the bedtime boxing match that I have a hard time getting used to.  Every night I tell myself it’s going to be different, that he’s going to fall asleep on his own & I’ll get to fold laundry or at least relax with my husband.  Unfortunately, every night after I lay him down and quietly creep out his room he stands up in his crib and screams until I return to rock him back to sleep.  Usually by the fourth or fifth time I start to lose my mind.  I hate to admit it but there have been times I’ve yelled back, begged him to lay down and even cried along with him.

I like to think I’m getting better at our bedtime routine.  I’ve started to implement easy tricks to help me stay calm like deep breathing & leaving the room when my patience runs dry.  I’ve learned the hard way that he can sense my anxiety which in turn upsets him even more & brings out the monster in him.

It’s a work in progress… :-/

Favorite Thing Friday – Miracle Gel

Pre-motherhood I had a standing appointment at the nail salon every two weeks for a gel manicure and pedicure.  They knew my name, didn’t mind if I brought wine along (which was usually the case) and didn’t judge my sometimes ridiculous polish choices like fuchsia pinks and black.  Post-child…what is a nail salon?  Although I hate to paint my nails I started to give myself at-home manicures.  I’m so hard on my nails that the polish would chip within a day so I would always opt for a clear polish to make my life easier.  I eventually decided to give Sally Hansen Miracle Gel a try & I love it!

Although it doesn’t last quite as long as the gel manicures at the salon it’s a great alternative.  It’s a quick two-step process to apply & doesn’t require UV lighting.  My favorite colors for fall are Wine Stock (pictured) and Greyfitti.  The next time you’re giving yourself an at-home manicure I definitely suggest using the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel!

#OOTD – Smart Casual (cont)

Although smart-casual “dress code” is quite popular it’s also vague leaving it open for interpretation.  For most people seeing the word casual brings sweatpants, jeans & t-shirts to mind.  Minus the sweatpants, that’s not completely off.  I view smart casual as polished informal wear i.e. jazzed up denim & tees.  Others will beg to differ and say although the word casual is involved that you should avoid jeans and opt for trousers or a skirt.  Like I said, it’s open to interpretation…

Take for instance the outfit I wore yesterday:

Black & White Patterned Tank with Lace Detailing

Black Blazer

Dark Denim (cuffed above the ankles)

Black Primadonna Collection Heels

I find myself dressing this way more often than not.  Although I may not wear heels everyday I try to find ways to look “dressed” while also staying comfortable.  My base outfit usually consists of a basic tee & my favorite skinny jeans.  I then add a statement necklace, a blazer or moto jacket and a pair of pointed toe flats creating the perfect smart casual look.  Feel free to share your thoughts or feedback on how you dress smart casual…
