Jumping on the Clean Eating band wagon

When my son first started eating solid foods I made everything from scratch.  I utilized my Baby Bullet to make healthy concoctions and only used fresh local produce & organic grass-fed chicken.  However, as time went on and he got older, I got lazier.  Maybe lazy isn’t a good word, more like exhausted, overworked & time constricted.  I found myself cooking with canned vegetables & boxed pastas more often and offering my husband and son chips & store bought muffins as snacks.

Over time we started to feel weighed down from all of the processed foods we were eating & snacking on.  On top of that, both my husband & son have sensitive stomachs and were taking medicine to cope.  We had to make a lifestyle change….

Eating clean seemed like such a fad to me.  Every time I turned around people were saying they were clean eating, or going vegan.  How ridiculous!  Or, was there something to this “eating good, feeling good” thing?  After doing some research we decided to jump on the band wagon.  We decluttered our cabinets & filled our fridge with fresh produce & lean meats.  It hasn’t been easy or cheap.  My kitchen is a madhouse from all of the prepping, cooking & baking.  Dishes are scattered across the countertops because the dishwasher is constantly full.  But, knowing that my boys are getting the vitamins and healthy fats they need makes it all worth it.

Of course, I’m not giving up my wine & there will be times we go out to dinner or decide to make nachos.  But at the end of the day, I’m hoping that by avoiding most processed foods we’ll gain more energy, manage existing stomach conditions & get the nutrition we need without taking supplements.

Wish us luck!!!

Favorite Thing Friday – Blanket Scarf

What better way to stay warm & stylish this season than with a blanket scarf.  A blanket scarf is exactly what it sounds like…a scarf that’s big enough to serve as a blanket.  This winter-time favorite has many personalities; it truly is the perfect addition to any outfit!

Whether you’re wearing it as intended or taking advantage of its oversized body, this scarf creates a cozy, effortless, ready for winter look.  Below I’ve shared four of my favorite ways to wear this one-size fits all essential.

A New Year, A New You (style tips to look & feel great)

After a 2 month hiatus I’m finally back to blogging!  Between the holidays & getting comfortable with working part time, I just didn’t have the time nor the energy to write.  But, I’m back & it feels wonderful!

It’s that time of year again…people are making resolutions, the gym is over-crowded & at home yoga videos are flying off the shelves.  I enjoy a good workout as much as the next person, but looking good & feeling good doesn’t always have to involve sweating your face off.  In honor of the New Year & trying to look our best I wanted to share some styling practices I use while styling myself & clients.

Highlight & emphasize your best features.  Whether it’s your bust, waist or legs, figure out what you love most about your body & flaunt it!

Style Suggestions Bust: V-neck blouses & dresses with a plunging neckline or scoop neck are the perfect way to emphasize your bust.  Waist: Tops with shape or cinching as well as belted high-waist pants will highlight your waist & show off your silhouette.  Legs: Boot cut jeans with a small flare will balance the curve of your hip which in turn elongates the leg & creates a slimming effect.  Shorter dresses and skirts are always a go-to when showing off your legs as well.

Avoid baggy clothing.  I know this can be hard.  Hell, most days you’ll find me in a comfy oversized tee, but wearing loose fitting clothing tends to have an adverse effect & actually makes you look bigger than you are.

Style Suggestions Peplum blouses, straight-fit tops, fitted blazers, belted dresses.  When in doubt, wear shapewear!

Don’t be afraid of skinny jeans.  Contrary to what many woman believe, anyone can rock a pair of skinnys!  The trick is to finding a brand that perfectly fits your shape.

Style Suggestions If you’re new to skinny jeans, start with a dark wash navy.  Treat the denim as leggings & tuck them into tall boots, or cuff them at the hem & wear with ankle booties, they’re also great to wear with high heels or even pointed toe flats
